Hi! I am new to this forum. I was wondering if anyone has a dog with Lupus? There is very little info on this and feeling very alone trying to help my pup with this. His body is covered in lesions and would love to talk to someone who is or has gone thru this

Thanks! He is 7 yo and was taking him to a dermatologist for the last 10 months. He was treating him with prednisone and antibiotics. I can no longer afford the dermatologist but my vet is treating him with little knowledge on this but is trying her best. Can't seem to taper him off prednisone or he starts getting pain in his back legs. He is German shepherd / lab mix

Specific Natural Treatment for Canine Discoid Lupus

Natural ointment that contains herbs that promote healing (such as calendula, aloe, and comfrey) is effective in helping to heal the cracked, irritated skin caused by discoid lupus.

Prednisone is very hard for humans to taper off of so I'm sure it's the same for dogs.

You can also try turmeric. It's a great anti-inflammatory herb that will help with his back legs. Get the capsules. You can empty one out in his food.

Another good supplement to try is glucosimine. That is specifically for the joints.

Thx. He is also on vitamin E and niacinimide and a cream when lesions get inflamed. The lesions make him look like he has mange. So sad. But he seems happy.

Versus dry food. Recently I have had to give him green beans and broccoli and hard boiled eggs since he is starving all the time from prednisone and has gained so much weight.

Poor boy. I think once he gets totally off the prednisone and it's out of his system he will feel alot better. That's a nasty medicine. A lot of people with colitis have to take that and they get the same symptoms when they wean off of it.

Please make yourself at home on the forum and feel free to post up pictures of your boy:) Please keep us updated
