I have a cat, as some of you may know....we have a tolerate/hate relationship. :D
Kato AKA Mr. Evil Filthy McNasty Crusty Ass is 10yr. old (as of March 14th) and other than this one issue, he's tolerable.

After he was "litter trained' and a bit bigger, we kept his litter box in the basement, he could go down and explore and do his thing ....which he did for almost 5 years. All of a sudden, he started going on the basement floor (concrete), I placed an additional box in another location in the basement...but that didn't work.
He continued to pee in the boxes....but poo on the floor.
I kept all boxes pristine at all times.....so it wasn't a matter of dirty boxes.

We put the question to his Vet (The Cat Doctor) and she suggested we ban him from the basement and bring his box upstairs. She thought the cat might be associating the damp/musty basement as his great outdoors.
We brought his litter box up and banned him from the basement(he wasn't happy).....all was well for another few years, and he did poop/pee in his litter box in the bathroom (under the sink).

HOWEVER.......the last 2yr. or so......he's been peeing in the box and intermittently pooping on the bathroom floor !!!!!
I keep the box extremely clean because of its location.... every time he goes, I'm in there after scooping it and sweeping up stray litter.
I also scoop/sweep right before I go to bed at night....and virtually every morning I come down to one pee in the box and poop on the floor.
And I'm not talking poop on the floor near the box.....like an "accident" .....no.....this is poop far away from the box. Near the bathroom door....or in front of the toilet....or next to the tub. :rp: It really makes the start of my day horrendous. :weird:

I also want to add he NEVER covers his pee or poop.....he just goes and leaves it there. :eekwtf:

Does anyone have any suggestions ? Reasons ~Other than he's trying to make my life miserable ? :cat:

Try picking up the poop and putting it in the litter box. Show the cat.

Well...since he does go in the box some of the time....I would think that he knows ?

I'm wondering if he could be so finicky that he's fussy about the level of litter in the box (too high/too low)? Doesn't want to pee & poo in the same box ??

I don't know that much about cats. You need Jackson from The Cat from Hell to give you advice!!

Cats are conniving critters! Once they get it into their heads to do something, it's hell to break them of it. I kept cats from when I was a small boy up until I discovered dogs. We had a male cat once that would spray the furniture / cabinets whatever was handy right in front of you as a challenge. Maybe it was his retribution for loosing his "boys".

The cat in this youtube video never touches the dog, so I have to wonder if the dog has lost other confrontations like this one.

O.M.G !!!!!!!!! :cs: That was hysterical !!!! And hits so close to home !!
Kato does that with 2 out of the 3 dogs.....he has Gretchen (Lab/Rott) scared to death of him....Gretchen won't go through a doorway where that cat is sitting. Because he'll leap up and bite her neck...for no good reason other than to scare the beejesus out of her !

He has Maisy (brown/wht. JRT) so scared.....she just shakes......:cold:

The only one that isn't scared of him and will run him out of the room if he gets feisty is Sassy (white JRT)

He doesn't spray.....THANK GAWD !!!! I think that would be the deal breaker for me....that, and if he crapped outside of the bathroom.
I almost think he's doing it out of retribution of some sort....or like I said....just to make me miserable !

I'd try to find a cat vet in your area, e.g., one that specializes in the feline kind. Like DD said, cats are a pain with behavior changes.

And I'd change to a new litterbox and different kitty litter, just in case Mr. Wonderful has taking a dislike to either of the current. Your idea with the level of the litter is not a bad one either, btw.

And I'd have him carefully checked by the cat vet.

We had a similar issue with Ceci (RIP), but it was just at the very end of her (long) life, when she was ill. At 10, yours is still quite young.

The Vet we take him to is "The Cat Doctor" she specializes in only cats.

I was hoping that it was just another one of his mental issues that I could figure out without spending anymore money. :p

The weird thing.....since I made this post, he was going in the litterbox every day !!!! EXCEPT this morning.
I thought I was actually on a roll......I think it was part of his devious plan....get my hopes up only to have them dashed to the bathroom floor once again !! :poop:

Try putting some pepper around the litter tray or wherever else he normally poos..I've done this with my cat as she wees wherever she wants (grrr) and its working! As for the not covering up the business in the litter tray, my boy never does either, apparently it's a sign of being dominant...I can see why my boy does this as we have a girl too, but if u dont have another cat then maybe it's towards your dogs that are afraid of him?? :/

You mean sprinkle pepper around his litter box ?
Or sprinkle it where he shouldn't go ?
I should think that the pepper would make him stay away from the litter box ? No ?

    I think it's towards ME !!! :D

Oh...O.K.....so I sprinkle it on the floor in the areas that he goes .....so it might force him back to the box ?
    It's worth a try...... Thanks !

    And no.....after 10yr. I know that we have a tolerate/hate relationship ! :D
