Make “Take Your Dog to Work” Day a Tail-Wagging Success PRWeb Published 09:01 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2012 Photo: PRWeb / HC Pet care expert Joan Nieman offers advice to pet owners who want to take their dogs to the office on National Take Your Dog to Work Day, June 22 Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) June 14, 2012 Friday, June 22 will be celebrated by pet lovers nationwide as the 12th annual “Take Your Dog to Work” Day and a growing number of companies are allowing pets to visit the workplace for this special occasion. That’s a good thing for workers, according to a recent article in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management. Researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University found that having dogs in the workplace can reduce employee stress, increase job satisfaction and work commitment. But, it takes care and preparation to make “take your dog to work” day a success. . “Having dogs in the office can be a positive experience if pet owners are respectful of their co-workers,” says Joan Nieman, a pet care expert and Vice President of Best Friends Pet Care, the national pet care services company, where employees bring their dogs to work every day. “It’s important to be realistic about your pet's temperament and training,” she explains. Nieman recommends only bringing a dog to the office if he or she does well at the dog park or day camp or other social situation. “You have to know that your dog will behave appropriately around other dogs.” Even if a pet is extremely well-behaved, the pet owner should talk to co-workers in advance about any concerns they may have. Someone with severe allergies or an overwhelming fear of dogs won’t appreciate even the gentlest canine and that could spoil the day for everyone. Nieman also suggests bringing along supplies that will make the visit easier on co-workers. This includes a pet or baby gate, so the dog can be restricted to one area; a water bowl, plus a plastic mat for under the bowl to prevent damage to office carpeting; and plastic bags for cleaning up after the pet’s “business” walks. http://www.chron.com/business/press-releases/article/Make-Take-Your-Dog-to-Work-Day-a-3633248.php
