How does everyone keep their dogs cool in summertime? For those that keep outside dogs, what do you do to keep them cool? For me, JC is an indoor pet so some of the time he is in the air-conditioning. When he does go outside, I make sure to have water on hand and I don't over-exercise him.
I have my long walk early morning, before it gets hot. If we walk during the day in the summer, it will be along a stream with shade. They put ice in my water and I take it easy indoors all day and have another walk late evening, if it's cool enough.
I'm the same with Karma as Clowie_dog. I can't stand seeing dogs left outdoors in the summertime without anyway of staying cool. So, in the mornings before the sun comes up, I take Karma for her walks, then later when it cools down a bit which is usually just before the sun sets, I take her for walks along streams, lakes, creeks, and where it is shaded too. Between those two times, I keep her right inside the house where it is kept cool and she has plenty of cold water with ice cubes in it to drink. If she has to toilet in the meantime, it is a quick trip outside, do the "business", then right back inside. Sometimes, she'll even go into one of the bathrooms and lay in the bathtub because the surface of the tub is cool, and even sometimes she'll manage to turn the faucet on to get a quick drink of water without having to get out of the tub! Smart dog!
