Is there any breed of dog that you don't like? While I like all breeds, I would not get a poodle. I never fell in love with this breed.
I would never buy a "designer" dog. I just feel like it's a person making big money off the sale of mutts.
I have always for some reason never trusted a Doberman, but I am sure they are nice! I dont like poodles (I dont dislike any dog, I just wouldnt want one) Im not crazy about those big guardian dogs-Great Pyraneese. And while I was obsessed with Chows back in my younger days I have NEVER had nor known one to be called a "really good dog"!
Oh oh, English Bulldogs. I want to throw up every time I see one. Go to a Georgia Bulldogs game and watch UGA's fat butt lay on bags of ice the entire game. Not to mention they have been through about 4 or 5 Bulldogs in the last 10 years. Now Smokey from Tennessee is where it's at lol.
I am with Debbie on this one - the designer dogs, those 'hypoallergenic' phantoms Not fond of toy Poodles, just not my thing, but I do like the Standards/Kings, because their purpose is different than the toys. And also agree on EBs; it breaks my heart each time I see one of them, and observe how difficult it is for them to breathe, even on cool days And - yes - nervous little dogs that are being coddled and carried by their owners, shivering and insecure ... there, I have issues with the owners who inadvertently reinforce insecrity, rather than treating the little one like a dog
I'm not crazy about any of the pug nosed breeds like bulldogs, boston terriers, frenchies, pugs... And I wouldn't own any really fluffy dog that required hours of grooming like rough collies, samoyed, chow, etc. but I'm just lazy about brushing
I wish I had your mindset about grooming before I got a Rough Coated Collie. Most days he's just a MESS! I love him to death though but I don't think I could ever own another. and I think the smooths are ugly.
I know this is probably going to sound crazy but I'm not big on Labs. LOL Everyone thinks I'm crazy for not liking them so much since they're like the most popular dogs, but I just see them as a bit "generic". They're great dogs and some of them can be very pretty but I'm just not a fan. I also don't think I could ever get a Chihuahua or Dachshund. But who knows, someday I might have a Lab, Chih and Dach. LOL Never know with me. I had also said that I wasn't a fan of Boxers and could never have one and look what I have now!!
I'm not big on Labs myself....but I have a Lab/Rottweiler X.....long story. And although she's got one of the nicest/sweetest/passive personalities in the house.....the hair is a nightmare and I probably would never purposefully go out and get another one.
Like Pitbulls, Dobermans are not for everyone.. They are very loyal and trustworthy family dogs, they are naturally suspicious of everyone and everything.. They are no doubt a hands on Dog and require a lot of socialization. Unlike the Pitbull they are meant to bite, and as far as i know the only dog bred from conception to be a personal protection companion, it is their job and they excel at it. The future of the Doberman depends on the type of owner they attract. With all that said there are a lot of untrue myths that plague this dog.. All thing considered they are very stable.. But i do understand that many people have a strong distrust in them. Another thing id like to point out is there are two distinct types of doberman (breed standards) one is the more laid back American Doberman Pinscher the other is the European Dobermann.. Same breed but two very different dogs. More information on the American Doberman and there European counterparts can be found here!
Oh i suppose i went OT a bit so to get back on topic.. There is no breed i dislike but i have met a lot of dogs i wasnt fond of due to bad manners.. although im sure this is due to lazy owners.
Von, what is your perspective on the German Shepherd or the Belgian Malinois? I would think that they could also be personal protection dogs. But then, I'm not an authority on either one.
The Belgian Melinois is in my opinion the Number one dog for personal protection followed by the GSD. I personally believe both breeds have the Doberman beat in nerve (primarily due to the american breeding practices intentionally watering down the Dobermans protective instincts.).. however either one was bred/created from conception as personal protection dogs.. the GSD for example was bred as a herding dog.. Im not entirely sure what the Malinois was originally bred to do.. Most serious Schutzhund handlers prefer the BM or GSD over a Dobermann. Oddly enough its somewhat rare to see a Doberman (one N) in a schutzhund club and in far to many instances Dobermans are not even allowed welcomed to join.. Very Few American Doberman Pinschers can even pass the initial Schutzhund evaluation.
what i question is what they were originally bred to do specifically? I suppose it could have been as a personal protection K9 i just dont know personally.. (i suppose i could look it up. lol)
